Ban has been Removed by Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia has lifted 8 Years old ban on the recruitment
of Bangladeshi workers. The ban was put in place in 2008, and while official
reasons suggested the Kingdom had ‘met its quota’ of Bangladeshi workers, rumors
also suggested that the ban had come after several reports appeared linking
them to criminal activities
including theft, printing fake currency, running banned businesses and some
other Illegal activities.
Announcement was made on Wednesday 10th August
2016 after a meeting between Saudi King Salman and Bangladeshi Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina in June 2016.
Golam Moshi, Dhaka's envoy at Saudi Arabia said “The
decision will benefit all categories of workers including skilled, unskilled
and professionals such as doctors, nurses, Engineers, teachers, farm, and General construction
workers”
He more added “We are thankful to Custodian of
the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia for allowing us
to resume recruitment”
Both ministers agreed to enhance support in the manpower
sector by addressing issues like reducing migration cost, imparting training to
Saudi Arabia-bound workers and recruiting more male workers and general Labours
for mutual benefit.
